At the age of 4 we already know the master skill, and that master skill is the delay of gratification.
All of life’s success is the result of the delay of gratification. It is telling yourself “No” when you’d rather say “Yes”. It’s saying “No” to the immediate short term reward, and instead saying “Yes” to the long term reward later.
And how does that deal with our finances? Well, the whole financial system is based and predicated on the idea of “How can we give you easy money, lend it to you at interest, so that you can immediately gratify your desires?” Instead of saving and waiting.
